COUMADIN, COUMADIN, COUMADIN, If I hear that word one more time!

I'm a 53.5 yr old (54 in Dec.)
Type II Diab. since April of 2004, Severe Fybromyalgia since 5-12-02 with CFS, Degenerative Arthritis & Had the ADOC fusion with a Titanium Spacer done 10-19-07 for the disks 5-6, 6-7 & 2 shoulder intensive treatment. Shoulder painsurgeries this year on 4-11-08 & 8-8-08-total of 6 surgeries since 2-9-07. Big history of Angina, hypertension & Heart disease-Dad's family bad Osteoarthritis.Mother's side is bad blood clots, GrMom had 2 have her Carotid Arteries cleaned out @ 68ish. I'm supposed to be doing PT for the Rt Shoulder HOWEVER, I was having all signs-symptoms except for coughing up blood & on 9-10-08 & wound up in the ER on 9-10-08, many tests & CT Scan w Contrast-now have a slightly less than 2cm PE in a branch of lwr Rt. lung! Then, Lovenox shots,-weaned to Coumadin & now a new GP I've had to find tells me I can't take my pain pills for my surgeries & my Fybro because it interferes with the Coumadin! I need a Dr. to explain: Why does Coumadin HAVE to be taken in the evening? Why can't I simply take 5mg in the am & 5mg in the pm? Why does it take 72 hrs for the turn around in the blood to get a decent INR? Why can't I take my pain pills if the Discharge Dr. from the Hosp. wrote that I can but this new B---- of a Dr. says I can't because it supposedly interferes with the Cou.? I have had my latest INR done Monday on 9-29 and it was a wonderful 2.0! I'm not having any dizziness, no little TIA's, nothing! Why can't I take mine the way it works for ME!? Why couldn't they dissolve the stupid tiny clot in the hospital instead of sending me home with all this mess? Why can't I simply do an Aspirin regimen of 325mg or 3 pills of 81mg instead of this stupid "theraputic" RAT POISON!? Now the Drs. tell me if I go off of it, I'll bleed out internally! How can that be if this is a BLOOD THINNER!? This makes NO SENSE! Would somebody please explain this to me? All they want to do is say: "Here, you need to do this, or that!"

Psssst!! Can we talk???

Most of you know by now that I had a heart attack about two months ago. I did pretty well in the hospital and just went for my checkup. The folks said I was doing pretty good, and kept telling me how important it is for me to lose weight, exercise, take my medicine, etc. Before I saw the doctor, I was interviewed by a bunch of pharmacists. Said it was part of a rotation or something. Didn't quite understand all that, but they kept asking questions anyway.
Strange, nobody asked me about the blood clot in my leg. I'm sure glad they didn't ask me about my medicine for the blood clot. Truth is, I only used those shots for two days. THEY REALLY HURT!!! And that warfarin thing, look at the discussion I found on the internet at http://www.oralchelation.com/faq/answers10.htm:

Dear Karl,
I have an elderly friend who has been taking Coumadin for the past 25 years.
He is now considered legally blind and was told by his physician that it is due to the narrowing of the veins/arteries behind the eyes due to his Coumadin use.
Have you ever heard of this? Have you heard that Coumadin is used to kill rats?
I haven't found anything relating to this on any web sites or drug warnings for Coumadin.
His doctor said that the vision loss is not due to anything else.
Thanks for your time.
Evelyn
The guy who answered this questions said, yes, indeed it is rat poison. I'm not taking rat poison. First the shots that made me feel like a pincushion and then rat poison. And they won't let me take my Gink-Go.
Oh, Well.
Being Fat is Costing Me Money
I knew it all along. Being heavy causes lots of pain and heartache, but I never realized that it hits us in the pocketbook. I heard an item the other day on NPR that talked about the econmonic burden on being overweight. Wow, was I surprised! I downloaded the item and posted it below.

What I Learned About the Metabolic Syndrome

When I visited the Weight Loss clinic the other day, I was interviewed by pharmacists who told me I had something called "Metabolic Syndrome." It sounded scary to me, so I asked more about it. The pharmacists told me something, but it didn't really make much sense to me.
So I Googled the words and found this really neat web site hosted by that trainer girl, Jillian Michaels. If you don't know it, she has a TV show called Losing it with Jillian. Jillian sent an e-mail specially to me, explaining in terms I can understand just what this Metabolic Syndrome is! I was thrilled because now I know that I have to take better care of myself. Here's what Jillian told me:
About Metabolic Syndrome
"Nearly one-quarter of Americans have a syndrome that dramatically raises their risk of developing other serious health conditions. It's called metabolic syndrome, and you have it if you meet three or more of the qualifying criteria:
•A waist circumference greater than 40 inches in men, and greater than 35 inches in women
•High triglycerides: 150 mg/dl or higher
•Low HDL cholesterol (the "good" kind): less than 40 mg/dl in men; less than 50 mg/dl in women
•High blood pressure, defined as a reading of 130 mm Hg or higher for systolic pressure (the top number), or 85 mm Hg or higher for diastolic pressure (the bottom number)
•High blood sugar: a reading of 100 mg/dl or higher for a fasting blood glucose test
Why does metabolic syndrome matter? If you have it, your risk of developing heart disease doubles, and you're five times more likely to develop diabetes. You also have a higher chance of developing fatty liver disease or polycystic ovary syndrome.
The good news is that there are ways to fight metabolic syndrome and lower your risk for its related conditions. Metabolic syndrome is linked to insulin resistance, and many of the strategies for combating insulin resistance are helpful for people with metabolic syndrome. For example, if you're overweight, losing 10 percent of your body weight can cut your risk of diabetes and heart disease and raise your life expectancy. Eating four small meals a day, without going longer than four hours between meals, can help you stabilize your blood sugar and insulin levels. And one of the most important changes you can make is to get more exercise, which can increase your cells' ability to use insulin.
If you think you might have metabolic syndrome, talk to your doctor. While it's a dangerous condition, the consequences are not a foregone conclusion — with diet and exercise you can take control of your metabolism and get healthier!"
BTW, her is a link to Jillian's web site. http://www.nbc.com/losing-it-with-jillian/. I found it to be pretty neat. There are a bunch of tools you can use and also there are links to past episodes of her show. I don't have much spare time to watch TV, but maybe I'll check out a couple of the episodes!!

Hey, everybody. I just got through watching my TiVo'd version of the Today Show with KLG and Hoda. They had some remarkable video on a woman that lost over 150 pounds. A hundered and fifty pounds!! Imagine that. I don't know how she could do this, but I am interested in trying. They mentioned something like the Joy Fit Club or something like that. I went to the website (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/541155/joy_bauers_joy_fit_club.html) of this lady name Joy Bauer. She's a nutritionist or dietician (don't really know the difference).
Here is a video of this really heavy woman that lost a bunch of weight. If only I could do that!!

I Miss Mary Ann

I got really depressed last night, thinking about my friend Mary Ann. She was just 39 when she died of a heart attack. Thirty-nine! Can you believe that. I am not sure how many of you have lost a close friend before, but it really hurts. It makes me think about my own susceptibility.
I know I'm a little heavy and I really don't exercise like I should. And I do sneek a smoke every now and then. But, come one. I'm pretty healthy. Or at least I feel healthy. The doctors got all over me the other day for being too heavy and not taking my medicine right. IT'S HARD. I work my tail off, taking a lot of crap from people. Sometimes I want to tell them what they can do with their stupid insurance claim, but I also know that I need this job.
I wish I wouldn't have dropped out of community college. Maybe then I could have a decent job where I didn't have to listen to people complain all day long!
Mary Ann was my best friend. I often think of all the things we did together growing up. In case anybody cares, here is her obituary:
